John O’Flaherty - Lynch is a contemporary landscape painter b. 1979 in Derry and living in Belfast. John achieved a BA (Hons) before progressing to the PGCE in Education, both from Ulster University. John is the Head of Art in an Integrated College, he has over 20 years’ experience working in schools.

His creative drive is deeply fuelled by a sense of escapism, freedom, and exploration. Nostalgic childhood summers spent exploring the rugged beauty of the Donegal landscapes with his younger brothers helped unlock a boundless imagination.

The raw, natural backdrop of Irish landscapes blends seamlessly with the cinematic storytelling that captured his imagination as a child. The rebellious spirit of the movie, Young Guns (1988), the sense of discovery in The Goonies (1985) and the mystical, folklore-driven journey of Into the West (1992) heavily influence his artistic vision. These narratives charge his imagination, allowing O’Flaherty-Lynch to infuse his paintings with a sense of adventure and wonder. Through his art, he recreates the wild Irish terrain not just as a physical place, but as an emotional sanctuary where nostalgia, cinematic romance, and the enduring bond of family all come together.
